FAQ's

Where is your Gym?

We are located in the Denver Tech Center/Inverness area in Colorado. For details on our location, please use our Contact page to send us an email.

How Do I Join?

Send us an email and we will set up an appointment. Then all you have to do is show up.

How long are your contracts, and what are your enrollment fees?

We do not utilize contracts or enrollment fees. Unlike some schools, we don't believe in burdening students with unrealistic contracts. Some people may only want to train for a few months, or a few years. Some will want to become instructors, and some just want to learn a few techniques to help them in a confrontation. So we won't tie your to a contract for months or years when you only want to reach a specific goal and then leave.

What do I wear?

Comfortable work out clothing. Shorts/Sweats, t-shirts, and comfortable training shoes. The classes are informal, and non-traditional. Academy clothing is available for purchase and emblazoned with our logo. But for now, just be comfortable.

Do I need to go and buy all my own equipment before joining?

Not at all! Eventually, you'll need to think about starting a collection of your own personal equipment. For health and safety issues, you should get your own boxing/bag gloves, mouthpiece, groin protection, etc. Eventually, you'll also need a pair of rattan Kali Sticks, a pair of padded training sticks, Thai pads, focus mitts, etc.

How often should I train?

It's recommended you come twice a week, but it's all about your personal preference and schedule. Our hours are limited, so let us know your needs and we can work on a schedule that suits you.

What does a class consist of?

In the beginning, students are taken through the basics of Jun Fan, Kali, Silat, and Boxing/Muay Thai. This gives you a good foundation, and will improve your fitness, timing, coordination, along with speed and reaction. During this beginning phase, however, you will occasionally be introduced to more advanced methods to keep your interest and to quickly get you prepared for anything that may come along.

Do you give rankings/grades?

Rank is not given or paid for, it is earned. We DO NOT charge a testing fee, testing will be every 3 months, and the only requirement is your attendance, based on your personal schedule.

What is the age requirement?

The age group is limited to 18 and over. In some special cases we will accept students that are younger. A parent or legal guardian will need to sign a consent form and must be present for any minor who wants to train.

Why won't you train children?

The Filipino and Indonesian systems can often require split-second rational decision making at to whether or not one should seriously injure their attacker, on the street. The decision a person makes could potentially have legal ramifications, especially if the wrong decision is made. We feel that level of decision making requires a certain level of maturity that typically only comes with age.

Do you teach 1 on 1?

Private lessons are available and carry a separate charge. Private lessons are by appointment only.

Do you train "Full Contact"?

We train "WITH" each other, not "ON" each other. We are a positive group, and every member is considered a member of our family and given the same respect for their physical well being and health. We do train full contact on the Thai Pads and various other equipment available, but we are always respectful of each other and safety will always come first.

Do you allow your students to train elsewhere, or in other systems?

Of course! Although we offer training in many different styles and systems, we always encourage you to find your own path. We understand that everyone is different and has their own perception and goals when it comes to self-defense and the martial arts, and we know that this isn't for everyone.

Are the classes mixed?

Yes, the classes are for men, as well as women.

Do you allow spectators?

Certainly! We advise it if you are unsure if you will like it or not. You can decide in your own time if you want to join in anytime during a class.
